Istanbul Medipol University was established in 2009 by Dr. Orhan Sobacı, a renowned Turkish businessman and former Minister of Health, who played a pivotal role in founding and guiding the university. Sobacı was the chairman of Medipol Company, which served as a foundation for establishing this educational institution. The goal of establishing the university was to provide high-quality, advanced education with a particular emphasis on medical and technical fields, as well as social and humanities sciences.

As one of Turkey's modern universities, Istanbul Medipol University has over 17,000 students, with a significant diversity among local and international students. Many of the university's programs are taught in both Turkish and English, attracting students from various countries. International students account for approximately 15% of the total student body, reflecting the university's international orientation and diverse academic environment.

Starting in 2024, Istanbul Medipol University is ranked 61st in the Western Asia region according to the QS European Rankings. In Turkey, the university has made notable progress in academic performance, currently ranked 40th in the national rankings for 2023-2024 by the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP). Additionally, it is ranked 7th among foundation (private) universities in Turkey. These rankings reflect the university's continuous growth across various academic areas, supported by its emphasis on research, international collaborations, and the quality of education provided to its students.

Istanbul Medipol University has multiple campuses spread across different parts of the city, including:

  • Golden Horn Campus: Located in Istanbul's historical district, this campus hosts many health and arts faculties. Cultural activities such as cinema and music are organized here, enhancing an active university life. It is accessible by public transport via the Metrobus.

  • Kavacik Campus: Situated on the Asian side of Istanbul, near the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, this campus is surrounded by forests and stunning landscapes. It houses many modern academic buildings, along with sports facilities like basketball courts and outdoor areas. Faculties such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Engineering and Natural Sciences are located here. To reach this campus, students can take the Metrobus and then transfer to buses from Mecidiyeköy to the university.

  • Mega Hospital Campus: This is one of the largest university hospitals in Turkey, located in Bagcilar. It is accessible by metro or buses like 28 or 76
